You Are Probably Wrong About Almost Everything

I was reading an article in Cycling Weekly the other day titled, "You Are Probably Wrong About Almost Everything." It caught my eye because I’ve been saying something similar for years—especially when it comes to business owners.

The truth is, most entrepreneurs are wrong about the things that matter most in their businesses.

They think their biggest problem is the economy. Or the competition. Or their pricing. But the real issue? Their own misconceptions.

My Personal Wake-Up Call

As an Italian South African living in Zurich, Switzerland, I never thought I’d see the day when I had to eat gluten-free pasta. But there I was, twirling a forkful of it, trying to convince myself it wasn’t that bad. It felt like a betrayal of my heritage! But the reality was, I had to adjust—whether I liked it or not.

And that’s exactly what most business owners refuse to do when it comes to their businesses.

They cling to outdated beliefs and strategies, even when the evidence says otherwise. And just like my gluten-free pasta experience, refusing to adapt doesn’t make the problem disappear.

The Myths That Hold You Back

Business owners believe all sorts of things that simply aren’t true. Here are some of the biggest myths I see every day:

1   "Facebook Ads don’t work." – Wrong. They don’t work if you don’t know how to use them properly.

2   "Google Ads are too expensive." – Also wrong. When set up correctly, they can bring in leads and sales at an amazing ROI.

3   "Email marketing is dead." – Nope. It’s still one of the highest-converting marketing channels—if you do it right.

4   "My customer database isn’t that important." – False. Your customer list is your business’s most valuable asset.

5   "People will call me back when they’re ready to buy." – Not a chance. If you’re not following up, you’re leaving money on the table.

The reality is, most business owners are either in the 'getting by' camp or the 'struggling' camp. They’re following the crowd, doing what feels comfortable, and wondering why they’re not seeing breakthrough success.

But the top 1%? The ones who are crushing it? They think differently.

Taking Control of Your Success

The most successful entrepreneurs understand one critical truth:
Where you end up in business is 100% on you.

It’s not the economy. It’s not the government. It’s not your competitors. It’s you.

The moment you take full responsibility for your results, everything changes. When you accept that your success (or failure) is entirely within your control, you become unstoppable.

The 90-Minute Habit That Changes Everything

Here’s a challenge for you: Dedicate 90 minutes every morning to working ON your business.

Not answering emails. Not putting out fires. Not handling customer service.

I mean real, focused work—marketing, strategy, lead generation, and improving your systems.

Every successful entrepreneur I know has some version of this habit. It’s one of the biggest game-changers you can implement.

Final Thought

Ask yourself: Where do I want to be by this time next year?

If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.

So be honest with yourself. What if you’re wrong about almost everything?

The good news? You can change. And when you do, your business will too.
